Rasmuson Foundation Welcomes Two New Board Members

Anchorage - The Rasmuson Foundation recently welcomed new board members Judge Morgan Christen and Dr. Doug Eby, both of Anchorage.  Christen and Eby succeed long-time board members Sharon Gagnon and Rick Mystrom, whose terms expired.

“The Rasmuson Foundation is all about helping Alaskans,” commented Judge Christen.  “Our communities have already benefited tremendously from its generosity, in ways we can see all around us.  I am delighted to have a chance to join the Foundation in its work.”

“The approach of the Foundation to create sustainable improvements that bring together many elements of the larger Alaska community is remarkable,” said Dr. Eby.  “I look forward to contributing to the excellent work that is already underway and growing rapidly through the Rasmuson Foundation.”

Since 2001, Judge Christen has served on the Alaska Superior Court and brings nearly twenty years of Alaskan litigation and judicial expertise to the board.  In 1986, Christen earned her law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.  She began her law practice, focused on complex civil litigation, in Anchorage with Preston Gates & Ellis in 1987 and made partner in 1992.  In 2004, Judge Christen received the Light of Hope Award for her work on behalf of Alaska’s children and was a co-recipient for the Outstanding Philanthropist award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Alaska Chapter.

Dr. Eby has worked in the Alaska Native health care community as a family physician for nearly 15 years and brings extensive knowledge of health care in both rural and urban communities.  Since 1998, Eby has served as the Vice-President of Medical Services for Southcentral Foundation, a position that provides oversight of an integrated health care system that includes over 45 remote villages and urban locations.  Eby earned his medical degree from University of Cincinnati – School of Medicine and traveled to Alaska in 1990 to begin his clinical practice at the Alaska Native Medical Center.  Dr. Eby was recognized by the Indian Health Service in 2003 as the Physician Leader of the Year and by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2004 as the Physician Executive of the Year.

The Rasmuson Foundation was created under a declaration of trust in May of 1955 by Jenny Rasmuson to honor her late husband, "E.A." Rasmuson.  The Rasmuson Foundation supports non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for people throughout the state.  By assisting these groups that address basic needs, arts and culture, and projects that address special circumstances, the Rasmuson Foundation contributes to healthy, enriched, and productive lives for Alaskans of all ages.
