Judy Rasmuson

Judy Rasmuson has served on the Board of the Rasmuson Foundation since 1997. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, she attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, majoring in economics. In 1968, she moved to New York City and started working in professional theater.

For the next 26 years, Ms. Rasmuson designed theatrical lighting throughout the country and in Europe. In New York, Ms. Rasmuson designed the lighting for the Broadway musical, Annie, and the Off-Broadway comedy hit, Greater Tuna. She worked in regional theaters throughout the country, but principally at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Center Stage in Baltimore, Hartford Stage and Syracuse Stage. She also designed several shows for the Alaska Repertory Theatre.

Outside the theater, Ms. Rasmuson designed the lighting for and toured with the rock band, Emerson, Lake and Palmer. For three seasons, she was the resident lighting designer for Chamber Opera of New York. Ms. Rasmuson taught lighting seminars at Brandeis University and worked with the Connecticut Vocational/Technical schools teaching technical theater.

Ms. Rasmuson was instrumental in setting up the Golden Retriever Foundation and served on its board for eight years. Currently, she is on the board of the Lemur Conservation Foundation and is immersed in lower primates, Madagascar and the intricacies of endangered species preservation.

Ms. Rasmuson is retired from the theater and spends much of her time breeding and training retrievers for field trials. She lives in Madison, Florida, and Wilsall, Montana, with too many dogs.
