Denise Heimel has been a Wasilla, Alaska resident for six years. Heimel is a visual artist working in clay to create sculpture forms in her garage studio. She works in metal and wood, often using a kiln to create subdued hues and burnt colors in her art. She uses hair, hide and other fiber materials as well. She regularly shows work in Alaska and other states. Her ceramics incorporate wood, hide, hair and various other media to add textural and surface designs on ceramics. In 2008, she was awarded an Individual Artist Award from Rasmuson Foundation.
