Karla Freeman was born in New York and moved to Alaska after earning her BA and Masters Degrees from the University of California Berkeley. During her time in California, Freeman had regular solo shows at the Berkeley galleries and was in many group shows in Bay Area museums. Oil painting is her favorite drawing medium. Freeman’s work can be seen at the Pratt Museum and the Bunnell Street Gallery, both in Homer, and Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. She has taught at the Art Departments of the University of California Extension programs in Berkeley and San Francisco, San Francisco State University and the University of Alaska Anchorage. She currently lives and works in Homer.
