Maygen Jannetta is a ceramic sculptor of 15 years. She was born in 1975 in Royal Oak, Michigan. After receiving a BFA in Ceramics from Northern Michigan University, Jannetta continued her studies at the Masters level for one year at the University of Tennessee. Residing in Alaska for the past seven years, she continues to create sculptural works and shares her love and knowledge of clay through teaching.”There is a deep historical connection between my work and the traditional art techniques of the past such as basket making, weaving, and hand building ceramic objects . . . I work intuitively and the pieces evolve during the construction process. I try to allow the clay to speak by exposing its natural tendencies to tear, rip and crack.” Currently she teaches ceramics at Homer High School and for the University of Alaska’s Kachemak Bay Campus.
