Miriam Cameron was born in the village of Gambell on St. Lawrence Island. She also lived in Haines and Sitka while growing up. Cameron attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, and transferred to University of Washington at the end of her sophomore year. She graduated with degrees in Art and Education. She taught art in Bremerton, Washington, and Greensburg, Kentucky, and returned to Haines, Alaska in 1970 with her husband. Cameron has taught adult education courses in pottery in Haines for the University of Alaska. She has exhibited and sold her art in the states of Washington, Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, and Alaska.
